Yea I think paying the tax on them here in NoVa is the worst part about having multiple cars.

Feel ya there. We’re up to 4 as a household, and the two more expensive ones are both in my wife’s name. October is considerably more costly than May.

I can’t decide which is worst. In GA the renewal is only $20 a year now, but they get you upfront with a 7% tax. I used to change cars every year or 2, tags were $200-500 a year back then. If you bought private party there was no sales tax.

But now we have to pay a 7% tax upfront regardless of where you bought it. One has to choose wisely and plan to keep it for years. I had to pay $3500 to get a tag for my M3. If I had only kept it 1 year, that would equate to $300 a month just in taxes.

If your second and third cars are worth less than your first car, does it really jack up your insurance a whole lot?

I just figured the insurance companies would figure 1 driver with 2 cars isn’t going to be driving much more than with just one car. So it wouldn’t impact insurance a whole lot, unless it was worth more of course.

Two are on the same policy, adding the second didn’t bump it up all that much. The Chevelle is on its own policy through Hagerty, though I may see if I can put it on my ‘regular’ insurance with an agreed value policy to simplify and probably save a bit of money. I do think they realize “hey this is a single guy who lives alone, I don’t think he’s going to crash two cars at once”

Worse yet is Michigan who bases your registration off the original value of the vehicle. So I pay twice as much for tags for my 09 S8 vs our brand new 17 Pacifica. It’s cray cray. With those two, and my truck, I was over $800 for the year. Ouch.

I mean, it’s cheaper than if I still lived in PA and I don’t have to pay for an annual inspection so...

It really adds up, especially if you have more than 1 car.

Oh that’s right! They do have peeps get vehicle inspections in PA. I forgot about that.

I dated a gal that was a native of Pittsburgh and I remember her clunky Honda having inspection stickers on it.

I have heard a couple stories of people skidding on wet rural driveways and sliding the car they’re driving into their own parked cars ...
